From the Desk of the Principal…April 4, 2023

Dear OLA Families,

We move through Holy Week, let us reflect on our Lenten journey.  Let us celebrate Holy Week  with a profound sense of awe, knowing that the resurrection of Jesus was real, and that our salvation is real, as He awaits all who love Him in heaven.

This Easter, amidst the chocolate and commercialism, we are invited to reflect on a deeper truth: Our Savior’s crucifixion overcame sin and death so that each of us may have eternal life.  And, every day, through the practice of our faith,  Jesus”resurrects' ' our earthly lives, transforming your despair into hope, our anxiety into pearce, and our sadness into joy.

The OLA Faculty and Staff wish you all a safe and joyous Easter Break. We are looking forward to seeing all our students return safely on Monday, April 17.

Easter Blessings!

Isaiah 50:4-9. Lord, in your great love, answer me – Psalm 68(69):8-10, 21-22, 31, 33-34. Matthew 26:14-25.

Our belief is a relationship

The confidence of the prophet in today’s first reading is overwhelming. A steadfast trust in God. As we walk with Jesus through Holy Week, we need that steadfast commitment, the bedrock of faith. We need it all the more given we can have so much pulling us to-and-fro. Just as Judas Iscariot was pushed and pulled between different commitments and loyalties.

Judas lost his belief, lost faith, in that he was no longer able to commit to his relationship with Jesus. As Christians our faith is to believe in someone. Our belief is a relationship, not simply a matter of recitation. It is betrayal of a relationship which shows the worst of our humanity. The sting of Jesus’ words after Judas lies to him expresses the pain and disappointment of broken relationships, of being unable to live a steadfast love.

Virtue for the Month of March is ~ Obedience

Saying “yes” to the Loving will of God and those He has set over us.

Obedience is a special virtue related to justice by which we pay our superiors a special honor which is due to them.  Not only are we to obey proper authority. But we are also to submit cheerfully and willingly. And not grudgingly.  Rather than seeing obedience as a burden or a limitation, we should recognize that in faithful obedience is found freedom.  When we remain in obedience to lawful and just authority over us,  this should lead us to a sense of freedom and peace.  At times this may be difficult and require some sacrifice; however, when we deny our own will and sacrifice for the good of others, we also experience the grace and peace of acting in Christian charity.

This is our largest fundraiser of the year and an opportunity for us to gather together as a school community. We hope you will consider attending the Live Auction and Dinner event on the evening of May 5th at the Poinsettia Pavilion. We will have Classroom auction projects on display, a fun and exciting Live Auction, the drawing of our Raffle winners, and much more fun! Additional auction items will be featured in an online Silent Auction that will be held in the days prior to the Cinco de Mayo event, so friends, family, and parents who cannot attend the auction can still have a chance to bid on some fun items to support our school. Keep your eyes on the News Notes for information regarding the start of the Online Auction and how you can get in on the bidding fun.
