Mission Statement: Our Lady of the Assumption School Commits itself to provide an education based on catholic values and academic excellence in a caring and safe atmosphere in  partnership with the family and parish  community.

From the Desk of the Principal…September 5, 2023Charity: It is Better to Give than Receive

Virtue for the Month of September is Charity.  The theme for the year is Community.

The virtue of Charity requires us to speak, act, and think with love.  We think of charity simply as a benevolent act of giving.  The most general definition of charity, however, means so much more. Charity in its purest sense means love.  It encompasses our love for God and our love for each other.  Charity is a divinely infused virtue which lets us focus our will to cherish God above all things for his own sake and to cherish humanity for the sake of God.

In our classroom our students will be looking at the virtue of charity exemplified by certain saints. Here are the Saints for the month of September:

In grades TK - 2nd grades will be learning about St. Gertrude.  Her feast day is November 16.  Jesus appeared to Saint Gertrude. She asked Him, “Give me a heart like Yours!” She wanted to show love to everyone, just like Jesus.

In grades 3 - 5 students will be learning about St. Vincent de Paul's feast day is September 27.   “Charity is the cement which binds communities to God and persons to one another….”  St. Vincent de Paul.

In grade 6-8 students will be learning about Venerable Laura Vicuna.  Her feast day is January 22. One of her most famous quotes ~ “ For me to pray or to work is the same thing, it is the same to pray or play, pray or sleep. Doing what I have to, I fulfill what God wants of me; and this is my best prayer.”

Week 22 in Ordinary TimeCatholic Connection on Instagram: "Wednesday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time ✝️📖✝️📖✝️ At that time Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman of that

1 Thessalonians 5:1-6, 9-11. I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living – Psalm 26(27):1, 4, 13-14. Luke 4:31-37.

He spoke with authority

The spirit of an unclean devil possessing a man, commanded to come out of him, does so. Our skeptical age isn’t quite equipped to take this on face value. Yet the people of Jesus’ time lived in a world populated by spirits, good and bad. They were aware of that which is beyond the material and gave expression to their experience in quite concrete ways. This world ‘beyond’ was not ethereal but bound up in their material experience.

Jesus’ authority is in both the material and spiritual worlds, and especially at their intersection. He makes ‘a deep impression’ because he ‘spoke with authority’. His authority comes from the way he overcomes the divide and fully integrates the spiritual with the material. He is a human person in full relationship with God and so, in the words of today’s first reading, ‘alive or dead, we should still live united to him’.
