Prayer for Peace in the Holy Land
Archbishop José H. Gomez has called on each of us to “open our hearts in a special way” and pray for peace and the end of violence in the Holy Land. Let us continue to unite in prayer by joining our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land and around the world to answer the call of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and all the Ordinaries of the Holy Land for a day of fasting, abstinence, and prayer on October 17, Tuesday.
As a school we are answering Archbishop Jose Gomez's call. Our classes will be going to church to pray today for peace.
This is our prayer:
Lord,
We pray to you for the Holy Land, for the people of Israel and Palestine, who have experienced the violence of war. We pray for world leaders to be guided by the Holy spirit to make decisions of peace. We pray for all the victims on both sides of this war.
God of all creation, bring justice and peace to our world. Teach us to be peacemakers. Guide us in our pursuit of justice and the common good. Inspire us to welcome all, forgive all, and love all.
Direct us as we walk in the shadow of Jesus: the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Give us the grace to see the world through your eyes, that we might find hope and joy each day, be supportive of each other, for the sake of your Kingdom. Amen
Virtue for the Month of October is Friendship. The theme for the year is Community.
What are some ways that we can foster deeper friendships with those around us and seek friendships grounded in Christ?
Be Intentional with Your Time: A good way to avoid this waste of time is to put your phone away, don’t bury your faces in technology. Throughout scripture we see that when Jesus was with His disciples, He was all there, totally involved and not wasting time when with them. We too need to be careful to always be in the moment with the people that we are with.
Encourage Each Other: Encourage one another and build one another up. Share what you have been learning from God’s word. Even if it doesn’t feel important, it could be just what your friend needs to hear. Make sure that you are having uplifting conversations.
Have Fun: God is not asking us to have Christ-centered friendships that are boring. Your time does not always have to be overwhelmed by deep theology or sin struggles. I strongly believe that Jesus had a blast with His disciples! I mean, isn’t He the one who created fun and laughter in the first place? Go out and do fun things together!
Week 28th in Ordinary Time
St Ignatius of Antioch
Romans 1:16-25. The heavens proclaim the glory of God – Psalm 18(19):2-5. Luke 11:37-41.
I am not ashamed of the Good News
I have grown to love St Paul. Part of that has been the discovery of his fragility. The Acts of the Apostles provides a full account of his discovery on the road to Damascus on three separate occasions. The story is full of wonder and surprise. It also tells the tale of a tentmaker who thought he had the meaning of life all sewn up. He was knocked off his horse.
Paul’s letter to the Romans is the only time we find him writing to a community he is yet to visit. It contains some of the most exquisite and confident writing imaginable. It is also veined by moments of uncertainty. He starts by trying to create a relationship with strangers: he prays for them, he longs to share with them, he apologizes he has been so long absent. From such a tentative beginning, he then says, ‘I am not ashamed of the Good News.’ May we all find faith flowering on the branches of our uncertainty.

Flag Football News:
Your OLA Dolphins won a thrilling Flag Football game against the Sacred Heart Cardinals 34 to 26. OLA was down 14-6 right before the half with Sacred Heart driving when Henry Bamieh picked off a pass and ran it the length of the field to score as the half ran out.
Down 14-12 to start the second half OLA took the ball the length of the field to score on a Theo Swafford pass to Henry touchdown pass to give OLA its first lead of the game 18-14. OLA couldn't hold that lead as Sacred Heart scored on their next drive. However down 20-18 OLA drove for the lead on big runs by Evan Barker, catches by Josh Barton and Lukas Devericks followed by another Theo to Henry touchdown. On sacred heart 's next possession a pick six by Theo gave OLA a 34-20 lead that ended all Cardinal hopes.
Notable contributors were Brenna Caron and Jack Gorrel who handled an aggressive pass rush and prevented any QB sacks. Sixth graders Leo Molfetta and Jack Baker had their first carriers of the season with Leo rushing for a first down on two carriers. And 6 th grader Samieh Schnitzler started and played every snap on defense.
OLA plays again against St. Sebastian on October 18th here at OLA and again on Friday October 20th at Saint Mary Magdalen in Camarillo. Game times are 3:30pm.
Come out and support the team and Go000 Dolphins!!
Volleyball News:
Team A 🏐💙🥇
It was another OLA domination on Thursday for the Team A Girls Volleyball Team!! Saint Anthony’s number one team came to OLA to face off against the defending champions. They were no match for us, once again! Our serves carried us through, as usual, and when rallies occurred, we stuck to our fundamentals and got our bump/set/spikes in as much as possible. We have yet to meet our match!
Team A plays today at Santa Clara and again Thursday October 19th at Holy Cross.
This Saturday, we are playing in a Spooktacular Tournament, going against other middle school teams in the area. It’s a costume tournament and the girls will all be Minions, Coach Mollie will be Lucy, Coach Justin will be Gru and Coach Joseph will be Dr. Nefario, all from the Despicable Me movies. We’ll get some good pictures! Wish us luck!
TEAM B🏐💙🥇
Our girls on Team B had the week off. They will be back in action this week playing today at Our Lady of Guadalupe and again Thursday October 19th at St. Anthony.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles mandates all clergy, staff, whether paid or volunteer, and all volunteers who work in any capacity with or around children, the elderly, or people with special needs to complete the initial three-hour VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children for Adults™ program. The program helps clergy, staff, volunteers, and parents to understand the facts and myths about child sexual abuse, how perpetrators groom children and young people, and how they, as caring adults, can learn and implement the important “Five Step Plan” to Protect God’s Children in helping to prevent child sexual abuse.
More than 150,000 clergy, staff and volunteers have participated in these training sessions throughout the five Pastoral Regions of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Please know you are welcome to attend a training at any parish in our diocese.
