From the Desk of the Principal…August 27, 2024
Welcome Back!
What a successful start to our school year. It was wonderful to see everyone on campus greeting each other, taking pictures and getting reacquainted after the summer break. It was great to see our parents reaching out to our new families. We have about 41 new students (TK-8) and new faculty and staff members. We are looking forward to a great school year.
Week 21 in Ordinary Time
Saint of the Day: St Monica.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3, 14-17.
The Lord comes to judge the earth – Psalm 95(96):10-13.
Matthew 23:23-26.
Behave with virtue
In today’s Gospel, Jesus condemns hypocrites who care more about the appearance of virtue than actually behaving with virtue. This is a message for all times. How often do I feel the divide between performing the role of ‘looking like a good parent’ – with neat, well-turned-out children and their wholesome, attractive lunchbox snacks – and ‘actually being a good parent’, with all of the mess and noise, emotion and patience that requires? Social media presents us with insta-perfect lives, but we are not living a performance. Prayer helps to cut through what is false and what is just for show. Prayer helps us to clean the inside of the cup, not just the outside.

Keeping the Promise Alive
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles mandates all clergy, staff, whether paid or volunteer, and all volunteers who work in any capacity with or around children, the elderly, or people with special needs to complete the initial three-hour VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children for Adults™ program. The program helps clergy, staff, volunteers, and parents to understand the facts and myths about child sexual abuse, how perpetrators groom children and young people, and how they, as caring adults, can learn and implement the important “Five Step Plan” to Protect God’s Children in helping to prevent child sexual abuse.
More than 150,000 clergy, staff and volunteers have participated in these training sessions throughout the five Pastoral Regions of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Please know you are welcome to attend a training at any parish in our diocese. To learn where the training is taking place visit lacatholics.org and under the pull down menu titled PROTECT/REPORT move your cursor to Safe SafeGuard the Children then to Education and Training.
