Virtue of the Month of November ~ Humility
Our school participates in a Deanery wide program which highlights a particular virtue of the month along with particular Saints for each grade level - Grades PK - 2 St. John the Baptist, Grades 3 - 5 St. Pio Pietrelcina, and Grades 6 - 8 St. Therese of Lisieux. The virtue for this year is Hope and the theme for this year is Study.
Humility is the true evaluation of ourselves with all our limitations. If we’re truly humble, we’ll admit our shortcomings, but we’ll also recognize our God-given qualities and abilities. As we grow in self-knowledge and humility, we should desire to serve God and others in ways best suited for our talents. Humility urges us to do good for others without attracting attention or expecting applause; a realistic opinion of ourselves prompts us to give credit for gifts and successes to God. The secret to swimming heaven? Losing our self-love in the virtue of humility. “Whoever, therefore, shall humble himself as a little child will be greatest in the kingdom of heaven’ (Matthew 18:4).
Tuesday of week 31 in Ordinary Time
All Saints Day
Apocalypse 7:2-4, 9-14. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face – Psalm 23(24):1-6. 1 John 3:1-3. Matthew 5:1-12.
We are surrounded by the communion of saints
Pope Benedict XVI, in his encyclical letter Spe Salvi (Saved by hope), once described the life of saints as ‘plunging into the ocean of infinite love… life in the full sense, a plunging ever anew into the vastness of being, in which we are simply overwhelmed with joy.’
The lives of those who have been named as saints by the Church are celebrated today. Their lives were marked by deep love, courage in the face of adversity, a willingness to forgive, a total commitment to Jesus and the other. Their lives still inspire us today. All who follow Christ are called to be saints with a small ‘s’. To continue to live lives that are holy and directed towards God.
Let us reflect today on the way that God’s grace works in every human life.
Parking Lot
On November 2, 2022, the church has scheduled for the parking lot and back of the school to be surry sealed and painted. This should not impact morning drop-off or afternoon pickup too much. The only catch is the exit. For that day only we need all parents to exit out onto N. Dunning street and not through the church parking lot on Telegraph Rd.
