From the Desk of the Principal…November 15,  2022

We wish you all the warmth, wonder  and cheer of the Holiday Season beginning with Thanksgiving.  We are so very thankful for all our OLA Families!  Happy Thanksgiving from the OLA Faculty & Staff!

Father in Heaven, Creator of all and source of all goodness and love, please look kindly upon us and receive our heartfelt gratitude in this time of giving thanks.

Thank you for all the graces and blessings. You have bestowed upon us, spiritual and temporal: our faith and religious heritage. Our food and shelter, our health, the love we have for one another, our family and friends.

Dear Father, in Your infinite generosity, please grant us continued grace and blessing throughout the coming year.

This we ask in the Name of Jesus, Your Son and our Brother.

Amen.

Virtue of the Month of November ~ Humility

Our Saints:

Grades PK - 2   St. John the Baptist

Grades 3 - 5      St. Pio Pietrelcina

Grades 6 - 8     St. Therese of Lisieux

The virtue for this year is Hope and the theme for this year is Study.

Humility is the true evaluation of ourselves with all our limitations.  If we’re truly humble, we’ll admit our shortcomings, but we’ll also recognize our God-given qualities and abilities. As we grow in self-knowledge and humility, we should desire to serve God and others in ways best suited for our talents.  Humility urges us to do good for others without attracting attention or expecting applause; a realistic opinion of ourselves prompts us to give credit for gifts and successes to God.  The secret to swimming heaven? Losing our self-love in the virtue of humility.  “Whoever, therefore, shall humble himself as a little child will be greatest in the kingdom of heaven’ (Matthew 18:4).

St Albert the GreatJuly 10, 2022 - Bible verse of the day (ESV) - 1 John 4:10 - DailyVerses.net

Apocalypse 3:1-6, 14-22. The one who is victorious I will sit beside me on my throne – Psalm 14(15):2-5. Luke 19:1-10.

I must stay at your house today

The story of Zacchaeus is sometimes used to illustrate the sacrament of Reconciliation. But it can also shed light on the Eucharist itself. First, Zacchaeus comes to find Jesus, though he fears to get too close. He is aware of his sins and feels unworthy. But Jesus welcomes him with open arms and joins him for a feast – a great example of his ‘meal fellowship’. Zacchaeus is reconciled with his community and promises to restore and help others. So, when we gather at the table of the Eucharist, we bring our true and humble selves. Jesus makes us welcome and rejoices in our presence. Then he invites us to the feast where we bring our small gifts of bread and wine that are transformed into something much greater. And we leave changed, renewed and missioned to make the world a better place.
