Tuesday: Week 5 in Ordinary Time
Genesis 1:20 – 2:4. O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth! – Psalm 8:4-9. Mark 7:1-13.
God’s name is written in every part of our earth
‘O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!’ We have become wonderfully accustomed in Australia to acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we stand. We are becoming more conscious of the care our first peoples had for this land for thousands of years. Their identity is tied up with this sacred country. The author of Genesis records the fifth and sixth days of creation in the liturgy today. ‘God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.’ Those two ‘days’ of God’s creation would have taken a few billion years of our time. And now after two centuries of industrial revolution we have changed the climate, and driven to extinction so many of God’s creatures. God’s name is written in every part of our earth. May we honour, with our Aboriginal brothers and sisters, the sacredness of the land on which we stand.
Virtue of the Month of January is Cheerfulness~ Looking on the bright side.
Our Saints this month:
Grade PK- 2: St. John Bosco
Grade 3 - 5: St. St. Philip Neri
Grade 6-8: Blessed Miguel Agustin Pro
Cheerfulness : looking on the bright side.
Cheerfulness itself is a virtue. Therefore, it is a habit that can and should be acquired. There are three important virtues that make people cheerful in the true sents of the word: hope, fortitude, & fraternal charity.
“The cheerful person always sees in any present evil come prospective good; in pain he sees a Cross from which will issue a Resurrection; in trial, he finds correction and discipline and an opportunity to grow in wisdom; in sorrow, he gathers patience and resignation to the Will of God. Helping others is not only the cause of cheerfulness, but also the fuel which keeps it burning. As Helen Keller, seeing through blindness wort “ Join the great company of those who make the barren places of life fruitful with kindness.”
( Archbishop Fulton Sheen)

APA BOARD CORNER
Our annual spring auction and raffle is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We raise much needed funds for school improvements that benefit all families and children at OLA. This year, some of the improvements that Ms. Fussell hopes to include installing a camera for security at the front gate, installing solar panels so that the school can eventually add air conditioning and not overwork our dated electrical infrastructure, and building a restroom for the TK classroom. The APA Board has planned the auction this year with a Cinco De Mayo Theme. It will take place May 5, 2023 at the Poinsettia Pavilion, from 5:30pm until 10:00pm. As we are saying, "No time to Siesta, let's Fiesta!" There are many aspects to making sure this event is successful and goes off smoothly. The APA Board members are a small and mighty group, but we would love to have as many school families as possible join us in making it an even more successful event. To this end, we have formed committees to spread the work among all Board members. If you are interested in helping out with a certain committee, you can contact me and I can put you in touch with the appropriate Board person. As always, you will earn parent hours for all hours you volunteer helping out with the Auction and Raffle. If you are unable to volunteer to help but have a connection for any of the above committees (printer, drink or food vender, auction items, etc), please reach out to me. Thank you for taking your time to help make our school the best learning environment for our children! Jennifer Bamieh jenniferbamieh@yahoo.com (805) 340-9168 | |||
